GISA MAYER
Nature is the starting point in my work for internal harmony. While visiting Canada for the first time in 1989, I felt an instant connection to the grand views of the Rockies, the big skies and the clear translucent air. I am especially fascinated by the absence of visible human impact on large stretches of vistas. This stands in the stark contrast to the almost constant presence of our influence in the landscapes of my native Europe.
In my work I portray this harmony with tranquility of construction and balanced colourism.
Painting is not an act of will and decision for me; gestural expression and the nature of the paint itself are important. The finished work is usually more interesting than anything I could have thought of before the painting process.
